30 aug 2000 - One of the most successful Dutch businesses since its introduction in 1967 has been financing sick leave and disability to work. When the Christian democratic Minister of Social Affairs Anton Veldkamp introduced his new legislation and regulations on sickness and inability to work he estimated a total use of no more than 150,000 to 200,000 people. The number has exploded to 927,000 in 1999 and is increasing again. Private use of payments and benefits for sickness and inability turned out to deliver a better yield than investing money in the stock market since 1967.
