The return of rational efficient stock markets
|
|
2 aug 2000 - As time moves on the chances increase that investors are confronted with the reality of decreasing stock prices. From its low in August 1999 at 2442 the Nasdaq Composite Index increased in one strong sprint to a high of 5133 in March 2000. Since then the index tumbled and she is back at millennium levels by now. The S&P 500 index showed a similar pattern but less volatile as did major Internet indices. From July 99 to July 00 the major indices and mutual funds specializing in information and communication technology shares show annualized strong increases from 50% to over 80%. Compared to yearend levels or March 00 levels all of them show a decrease.
